The Staunton Braves opened the 2019 Valley Baseball League season with a 13-7 win over Front Royal at Moxie Stadium.
Starting pitcher Lliam Grubbs (James Madison) gave up three runs in the first inning on back-to-back homers, but then settled in and worked three more solid inning to keep the Braves close. Grubbs allowed four runs, on four hits in four innings while striking out nine batters.
Eli Davis (Arkansas State) and Devon Adams (George Mason) homered for the Braves. Davis was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and four runs scored.
Duncan Pastore (Nova Southeastern) drove in three runs. Calloway Sigler (James Madison) was 1-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
Mitchell Guerrieri (Goldey-Beacom) pitched two innings and picked up the win. He game up one run on one hit. Reid Celata (UMBC) worked the final three innings for the save, allowing two runs on two hits.
