FLORIDA ATLANTIC SENDS THREE TO STAUNTON

Florida Atlantic University will send three players to the Staunton Braves during the 2010 summer season.

The Owls will send a pair of pitchers and a catcher to the Braves this season.

Freshman right-hander Kevin Alexander was one of the top prep pitchers in Florida. Alexander, expected to compete for a starting spot in his first year, was drafted in Round 39 of the MLB draft by the Orioles.

Junior right-hander Jason Kitchen started his career at UConn before transferring to Indian River Community College where he was the closer for one of the top JUCO programs in the nation in 2008. Kitchen missed 2009 season with an injury, but is expected to compete for the closer’s role at FAU this spring.

Freshman catcher Mike Spano was a first-team Class 4A All-State pick in Florida as a senior. A left-handed hitter, Spano can also play both corner spots in the infield. He hit .486 as a high school senior.
