Freshman Mike Mercurio from Brewster, N.Y., is expected to start at shortstop for High Point this spring. Mercurio helped Kennedy Catholic High School to the first league championship in school history in 2006 and was part of 2008 state championship team . Kennedy Catholic won another league championship in 2009. Mercurio was named Louisville Slugger preseason second-team high school All-American in 2009 and was a 2009 Louisville Slugger post season first-team All-America selection.
Freshman Andrew Bartlett from Ocala, Fla., is a utility player and his bat should help him find a spot in the lineup.
