College Baseball Diary No. 6: Saturday’s updates on former and future Braves
First, a look at some 2018 signees.
Brandon Hernandez (UCF, SS) was 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in the Knights’ 5-4 loss to Rice.
Lucas Coan (Erskine, LHP) picked up his second win of the season as he allowed just one run on four hits in five innings of work in a 4-1 win over Urbana. Coan struck out 10 and walked three.
Patrick Ryan (William & Mary, 3B) was 1-for-3 with a run scored in a 7-6 loss to No. 12 Clemson.
Seth Hartings (UNC-Pembroke, 2B) was 2-for-5 with a triple and a stolen base in Saturday’s win over Augusta.
Pete Soporowski (Rider, LHP)pitched well despite taking the loss in a 10-2 setback to Ohio. Soporowski allowed one run on five hits in four innings. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.
Several former Braves also had good outings Saturday.
Radford OF Andy Szamski was 4-for-4 with a homer, two doubles and four RBIs in a 12-6 win over North Florida.
Dayton RHP Jordan Cox picked up the win as the Flyers defeated Evansville 6-3. In five innings, Cox allowed just one hit and two runs. He struck out nine and walked six.
Samford 1B Austin Edens belted a two-run homer, the 45th of his career, in Saturday’s loss to No. 15 Virginia
VMI catcher Peyton Maddox was 1-for-4 with one RBI in a 7-2 loss to No. 19 South Carolina.
William & Mary OF Ryan Hall was 2-for-4 with one RBI in the loss to Clemson.
Towson 3B Richard Miller hit a two-run homer in a win over New Mexico State.
Payton Robertson was 1-for-4 with one RBI in Lamar’s 8-0 victory over No. 22 Missouri State.
The Citadel’s SS Will Kinney was 1-for-3 with one RBI in a Saturday loss to No. 13 Louisville, 8-3.
