Today’s College Baseball Diary.
Baseball season is officially underway for some D-II, JUCO and NAIA teams across the country.
*Former Braves Andrew Labosky and Brendan Cutting are off to hot starts for Nova Southeastern. In four games this past weekend, Labosky was 13-for-21 with 10 RBIs. He was 5-for-6 with a double, triple and 3 RBIs in a win over Tusculum and that wasn’t even his best game of the weekend! He was 5-for-7 with a double, two homers (one a grand slam) and 7 RBIs in a win over Catawba. Labosky was named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week. Cutting was 5-for-12 with five RBIs in the four-game weekend. Cutting had a 3-run homer in the opener vs. Catawba.
*Connor Crile was 4-for-11 with four RBIs as Tampa opened its season with a three-game series against Bentley.
* Patrick Overstreet (Truett-McConnell) is off to a 5-for-14 start in the first four games of the season.
Some 2018 Braves also got their seasons underway.
*Lucas Coan (Erskine) made his first start of the season and worked 5.1 innings and allowed four hits and two earned runs. He struck out five and walked five.
*UNC-Pembroke teammates Seth Hartings and Luke Jackson had solid starts in a three-game sweep over Shepherd. Hartings was 4-for-12 with a homer and four stolen bases. Jackson was 3-for-7 and also had a homer.
*Zach McLeod made his first start for Ottawa and allowed no earned runs in three innings. He struck out one and walked two.
