Gonzalez Named No. 6 Corner Infielder Prospect

D1baseball.com named former Braves IF Romy Gonzalez (Miami) the No. 6 corner infielder available in the 2018 draft class.

Here’s what D1baseball.com had to say about the former Staunton Brave.

“It was summer of adjustments for Romy Gonzalez, who struggled with the swing and miss early, but proved to be extremely coachable and turned into one of the most rounded offensive threats on the Cape. Gonzalez also shows positional flexibility, playing all over the infield, but his best home may end up being third base when you consider his large 6-foot-2, 210 pound frame into equation. Although he’s a fringe runner out of the box, Gonzalez is a smart base runner. His defense will need work, but his bat is going to be his main selling point. Gonzalez shows plus raw power that plays extremely well to the opposite field gap, and he has a silky smooth stroke with easy, natural lift. He’s a free swinger and he’ll need to continue cutting down on his chases out of the zone, but the juice in his barrel cannot be denied.”
