Braves Rally Past New Market To End Four-Game Losing Streak

The Staunton Braves snapped a four-game losing skid with a 14-5 victory Thursday at New Market.

The Braves trailed 5-1 after three innings, but the offense exploded for 13 runs in the final four innings to take the victory.

Staunton started its comeback in the sixth. Max Wood (UCF) doubled and scored on a triple by Payton Robertson (Lamar). Antwaun Tucker (Longwood) plated Robertson with a grounder to the right side to pull the Braves to within 5-3.

The Braves took the lead in the seventh. Andrew Labosky (Nova Southeastern) and Kam Lane (Miami) reached base on singles. Wood chase one run home with a single and a two-run single by Robertson put the Braves on top 6-5.

In the eighth Deacon Medders (Alabama) and Michael Higgins (UCF) each singled and Lane cleared the bases with a three-run homer, giving the Braves a 9-5 lead.

Staunton put the game away with five runs in the ninth. Medders, Higgins, Labosky and Robertson each had a run-scoring hit in the ninth.

The top of the order did a lot of damage as leadoff hitter Wood was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs scored and Robertson followed with a 3-for-6 night and four RBIs.

Medders was 3-for-5 while Higgins, Labosky and Lane each added two hits.

Corley Woods gave the Braves a huge effort in relief as he worked 3.1 innings and allowed no runs on two hits to pick up the victory.
