Braves Blank Generals, 7-0

Four Staunton pitchers combined on a six-hit shutout Wednesday as the Braves defeated Waynesboro 7-0.

Deacon Medders (Alabama) pitched six dominant innings, allowing just four hits. Medders struck out eight and walked two. Wade Strain (William & Mary) allowed one hit and struck out one in the seventh and Brandon Gochenour (Potomac State) struck out the side in the eight. Jacob Benfield (Bridgewater) worked the ninth, allowing one hit while striking out one.

Max Wood (UCF) led the offense, going 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Antwaun Tucker (Longwood) continued his torrid hitting pace, going 3-for-5 on the night. Richard Miller (Towson) was 2-for-4 with one RBI and Brendan Cutting (Nova Southeastern) was 1-for-3 with one RBI. Andrew Labosky (Nova Southeastern) drove in two runs.

The Braves took the lead in the first when Jay Charleston (Tennessee) singled, stole second and scored on a base hit by Miller.

Henry Kreienbaum (JMU) led off the second with a single and Wood reached on an error. Labosky plated a run with a groundout and a sacrifice fly by Cutting made the score 3-0.

Labosky drove in a run with a single in the fourth and Wood’s two-run double in the fifth made the score 6-0. Tucker doubled in the seventh and scored on a single by Woods for the final 7-0 margin.
