Coale’s Grand Slam Helps Braves Snap Losing Streak

Ryan Coale (JMU) belted a grand slam homer in the top of the 11th inning Thursday night to break a 9-9 tie and the Staunton Braves held on to defeat Front Royal, 13-11, snapping a three-game losing streak.
Staunton trailed 6-2 after two innings, but three runs in the fifth made it a one-run game. Jay Charleston (Tennessee) doubled with one out and walks to Richard Miller (Towson) and Henry Kreienbaum (JMU) loaded the bases. Antwaun Tucker (Longwood) singled home two runs and Kreienbaum scored on a passed ball to pull the Braves to within 2-1.
The Braves took the lead with two unearned runs in the top of the seventh, but the Cardinals scored one in the bottom of the inning to tie the score at 7-7.
The Braves took the lead in the top of the ninth on a run-scoring single by Tucker. Another run scored on an infield error, giving Staunton a 9-7 lead.
Front Royal’s Dominic Canzone belted a two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to extra innings.
The Braves are now 3-3 on the season and return to action Saturday night at Harrisonburg.
