Braves Pick Up Big Win Over Tom Sox
The Staunton Braves moved closer to securing a spot in the playoffs with a 9-6 victory over the Charlottesville Tom Sox. The Braves have a three-game lead over the Sox for the final playoff spot in the South Division.
Charlottesville led 6-3 after three innings, but Braves relief pitchers Parker Johnson and Sam Crocker combined to hold the Tom Sox without a hit over the next five innings. Johnson worked 2.2 innings and struck out seven batters. Crocker got the win, pitching 2.1 innings and striking out three.
Trailing 6-5, the Braves scored three runs in the seventh to take the lead. Adam Sisk drove in the tying run with a single to right and Keegan Maronpot plated two runs with a bases-loaded single, giving the Braves an 8-6 lead.
Garrison Vandeventer retired the Sox in the ninth to earn his fifth save of the season.
