Braves Rally For 11-10 Win

8_Irving_LopezThe Staunton Braves scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday evening to defeat Charlottesville 11-10 at Moxie Stadium. 

Entering the seventh inning, the Braves trailed 3-1 and were still looking for their first base hit. With two out and two runners on, Irving Lopez lined a double into the right-field corner, Staunton’s first hit of the game, and both baserunners raced home, tying the score at 3-3. Ryan Hall plated Lopez with a single to center, giving Staunton a 4-3 lead.

The Tom Sox bounced back in the top of the eighth and a grand slam homer by Dupree Hart put the visitors on top 8-4.

The Braves scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull within 8-7, but Charlottesville answered with two in the top of the ninth to lead 10-7.

With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Adam Sisk singled and Keegan Maronpot followed with a double, making the score 10-8. Andrew Kowalo was then hit by a pitch and Romy Gonzalez followed with a grounder to first. All runners were safe on the play on a throwing error, with Maronpot scoring to make it 10-9. Peyton Maddox was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Eli Kashi drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the score. Lopez then drew another base on balls to force in the game-winning run.

Lopez finished the game with four RBIs while Sisk added two hits and Maddox drove in a pair of runs.
